HAHHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAH

I have already watched the movie Joker and I personally think it was fantastic and that Joaquim Pheonix deserves to have his rendition put up with the Jack Nicholson and Heath Leadergers joker. The new gritty movie despite its accolades has come under immense scrutiny for the gun violence shown in the movie. Groups of people are claiming it is going to lead to more gun violence or violence in general due to the main character enjoying when he kills people. Normally the antagonist is the one who enjoys hurting or killing people but in this movie, that character is the protagonist and people are believing that is not healthy. People are worried that this will encourage kids to commit more school shootings.

My opinion on the matter is people are being stupid. The movie is R rated, its meant for people above the age of 17. Now obviously they can still view the movie if accompanied by an adult which is usually their parent. Which means the parent is enabling and chaperoning them to go see this movie. It's stupid to complain about a graphic movie for being graphic. It is the same as complaining about a sports car for going fast. The argument that it will increase shootings is not true either. We've seen with other entertainment mediums this pop-up, like with video games and rock music but it just never checks out.

video game scapegoat

With the seemingly weekly mass shootings at this point, government officials from both sides are suggesting their own causes for these shootings. Some republican figures have put a direct correlation between the increase of violent video games and the increase of mass shootings. Their logic is that peoples actions inside the game are being emulated in real life, except that is just not the case. They speak of "We must stop the glorification of violence in our society"(romano) yet we all know that plenty of people went to see a john wick movie and that some people have the common sense to not go pile as many bodies as they can. It's frustrating that people in power are using a hobby as a scapegoat. In South Korea, they play way more video games than Americans yet there are hardly any cases of mass shootings. Metoo

The #metoo movement has been a polarizing movement over the past two and a half years since it gained major steam in 2017. The phrase #metoo comes form victims of sexual assault telling stories of their assaults and listeners realizing they too have been assaulted. Then those listeners telling their own stories of sexual assault. The movement has touched many different fields and is not unique to any small sect of work or people. The sports industry with Larry Nassar, entertainment with Bill Cosby, media with Matt Lauer and politics with Al Franken. It's great that people are speaking out and holding their assaulters accountable and responsible for the actions/behaviors. There has been so much outpour and stories coming out and it's unfortunate for the people with real experiences of assault when others come out with fabricated ones. internet security continued failure

Each week in recent years it seems as though personal accounts, data, web traffic, private information, etc are being leaked. One only needs to look at places such as facebook, target or even and some android phones. This week victims of an information leak are said to be nearly every person in Ecuador which is around twenty million citizens including seven million minors. The breach was sourced back to an unsecured server in Miami leaking information such as "full names, date, and place of birth, home and email addresses, national identification numbers and taxpayer numbers, employment information, and more."(yeung), along with financial information. Since the breach, the government is in a mad rush to address and fix the breach and have detained the believed suspect.
